Sometimes i play wedding gigs and people seem to get married all over the world. This is one of the things that makes me love my job!
The wedding was taking place in a famous resort in Pulau Langkawi, an island in the north east of peninsular Malaysia. As i arrived the day before i could check in and relax on the beach drinking a cold beer while the resident band was playing some cool acoustic tunes.
The bass player told me that since he broke the bridge of his upright bass, he had to fix it using a kitchen tool, plus the strings were actually fishing rods. I gave the instrument a try and i have to admit it sounded great!
The next day i got to the beach quite early as i like to do my soundcheck with no rush. Even though it was cloudy, the temperature was still above 30 degrees and i had to keep a towel handy: yes, Malaysia can get you pretty sweaty, especially when you come from 3 months in the much drier and breezier beaches of Goa, India.
Once we got the sound right (i say we as there was an amazing team of professional looking after the stage) i had the time to go for a walk on the beach and enjoy the sunset.
As a famous Chinese philosopher used to say, “find a job that you love, and you’re never gonna work a day in your life!”. He was right!
