Last winter, while spending few weeks in Goa, i met a friend of a friend. They both live in Bologna, and somehow, this casual encounter led to a show in the city. As i don’t own a smart phone, this was my way of reaching the venue by car!
Bologna it’s just 1 and an half hour drive from my hometown: it’s not a huge city, but thanks to its vibrant student life and slightly left wing poilitics, the city is one of the most interesting places in the country when it comes to art, nightlife and in general having a good time!
After catching up with Valentina, we went to the venue together, to chill out and have a few drinks before the soundcheck.
After the gig i took a look around. This venue has a very interesting story. These were the old botanical gardens of the city, where people could grow their own vegetables and flowers. There was a zoo as well and the lion’s cage might become a stage in the future. After being abandoned for many years, a bunch of friends came up with a project: convert this beautiful space into an open venue where they could host concerts, events and screen movies during the hot summer nights.
In the past 20 years many old friends from my hometown moved to Bologna to study or get better jobs: it was a great surprise to meet Marco, one of them, after so many years!
And some of thgese old friends now have babies: some of them are really into music already!
After a good night of rest i enjoyed the Bologna’s morning vibe again: i slept in a lovely tiny flat, with books everywhere, movie posters (my friend makes subtitles for foreign movies) and a general relaxed feeling.
I found this little gadget as well: what a great present for a movie aficionado like my friend!
Old school traditional trattoria, are still alive and kicking in Italy: they always provide a cheap homemade earthy meal!
A classic Italian meal with orecchiette, white wine and a final cup of espresso!
