Finally made it back to my lovely little place in Gili Meno. I love living here: it’s a proper Sasak house that the owner originally built in Lombok. One day he decided to dismantle it and rebuild it here. My only company, a dozen of hens, a couple of proud roosters, the odd cow coming in to munch on some of the lawn and a giant black Geko that other than waking me up at night with his sounds, always drop his poop in the same spot.
Sleep when you’re tired and eat when you’re hungry. Early morning on the beach while the sun is not too strong, and loads of siestas in the shade underneath the house. Productive nights of work, getting the new album promo material ready and learning new songs for the upcoming Europe/UK season…!
Things didn’t change much since i last visited Gili Meno exactly one year ago. The sea and the sky are still of the deepest blue, the local kids are still playing on the beach and the Nasi Campur at the warung near my house is still as tasty as i remember…!
Yesterday i finally managed to meet Mr.Boulong at his Turtle Sanctuary and gave him the donations collected with the online sales of Afronesia. The whole amount of 2.200.000 Rupees will be entirely spent in support of the Sea Turtles that Mr.Boulong looks after since many years.
Human beings are always a good inspiration for songwriting. Currently crafting a couple of new tunes, one about people taking pictures of people taking pictures and one about yoga mamas not smiling as much as they might do.
Few days ago, Mr.Bolong released more than 100 little sea turtles. They were finally ready to start their real life in the ocean waters. It was great to see how many people attended to the event and donated to the sanctuary. The sea was a bit rough, so we’ve been told to put the little babies straight into the water instead of letting them walk from the beach to the shore. I took mask and snorkel and followed them in their first swim ever…It was quite touching to see these little fearless creatures making their way in the deep blue… You can still donate to the Gili Meno Sea Turtle Sanctuary downloading the album “Afronesia”, recorded last year on the island. http://miserablemanmusic.bandcamp.com/album/afronesia-soundscapes-from-the-wallace-line-2
