Even though my return flight to Malaysia was already booked from Kolkata, the sweetness of Goa made me very lazy. I couldn’t face the 48 hours train journey to the city of joy, nor find a KL bound flight from Mumbai cheap enough. The good news is, that Airasia has a regular flight to Kuala Lumpur leaving from Cochin, so after an absence of nearly10 years i was quite excited to return to this place, even if for a very short time. I took a little room near Fort Mattancherry and spent the afternoon walking around the area.
The wonderfully decorated Syrian church just in front of my hotel, shows how much Cochin incorporated different styles and cultures throughout the centuries. Such a strategic port, was always an important crossroad for traders and sailors.
The Chinese nets are another important trademark of the city, other than being the focus of the tourist trail.
But despite all these fusion influences, the real India is always visible…
I enjoyed my late afternoon walk, taking pictures in the golden light.
