When i’m in Diu i spend a lot of time with Kailash hanging around his little restaurant. What i really love to do, apart from sitting there sipping coffee and chatting, is to go with him to the fish market, especially when some customers order some special seafood for the evening.
The fish market is open every day in the morning. One must not be late in order to be able to pick from the best of the catch of the day. Women in saris proudly display their fishes and seafood, while the locals look around and try to get the best prices.
Normally you can find sharks, red snappers, tunas, mackerels plus squid, prawns and lobsters.
These women work hard all day: they wait for their husbands to come back from the sea at dawn, and work at the market all morning. You can tell by their skin that this is no easy work!
