PARADISO GUEST HOUSE: A REAL OLD SCHOOL GEM IN THE HEART OF SURAKARTA.

Sometimes you find the best accomodations there where you don’t expect to be any. Unlike Yogyakarta, Surakarta (o Solo), does’nt see a steady flow of foreign visitors, therefore, to find a budget accomodation can be quite an issue.

IMG_6522Tucked away, hidden in a maze of narrow alleys, there is a place called “Paradiso Guest House”. It’s just my kind of place.

IMG_6523It’s a huge old school type of losmen, with plenty of room and no customers, especially now during the monsoon season. One would expect such a place to be haunted…

IMG_6501Everywhere tropical plants decorate the white interiors, with their natural lush green.

IMG_6500Old mirrors and framed pictures are scattered here and there, together with old chandeliers and rattan chairs, giving a retro touch to the whole place.

Untitled-2I managed to get a spacious room, with double bed, fan and attached toilet for only 75000 INR, wich is a bargain and quite an impossible price in  more touristic areas such Bali o Lombok.

IMG_6610In the morning, for an additional 2000 INR, the doorman will deliver a glass of proper javanese coffee at your door. Basically, 1 british pound could get you 7 coffes…not too bad eh..?

If you’re gonna be one of the few visitors brave enough to venture to Solo, you can get some more infos about this place here:
